March 2018 News
March was quite the busy month for New Era Combat Sports, and April doesn’t look like it will be any different! The sun is starting to shine, and the snow is beginning to melt away. A few members have started their outdoor cardio training, utilizing the sunny weather we are having. Take advantage of it whenever possible! The work ethic and atmosphere around the gym lately has been cranked up a notch or two and we hope you are enjoying things as much as we are! Remember, we are always here for you! Now let’s get into what’s been going on at New Era and what is coming up in the near future.
MARCH 3: Andre Larocque lost in the finals at the Sub-X Grappling Tournament. Jordan Bosley also competed hard but came up on the losing end of a real tough match-up.
MARCH 16: TKO 42 in Laval was an outstanding spectacle that I am sure those who made the trip or watched live on TV enjoyed! We couldn’t be anymore proud of our 3 amazing fighters; Matar, Mateo & Alex. These guys are unbelievable athletes and put on a great show. Well done.
MARCH 18: At the SAU tournament on March 18th New Era did extremely well. Congratulations to Jake Geauvreau & Jack Smith on winning gold, Mike Burton on winning silver, Fred Boyd, Gauge Geauvreau, Moh Anis, Kristy Balcom & Zac Rodier on winning bronze in their respective divisions. We also took home 2nd place in the team Adult NoGi division.
MARCH 18: Christos Georgaras & Taylor McClatchie recently had fights in Toronto which saw Taylor adding another W to the win column, and unfortunately Christos fell short against a tough, giant of a man!
APRIL 6-7: Upcoming events. April 6th is the “Spring Beats” Heroes Combat event at Sala San Marco featuring many New Era competitors. Good luck to Dave MacDonald, Cole MacInnis who are the main & co-main events and Kristy Balcom who is competing in her 1st Muay Thai fight. Good luck Dave, Cole, and Kristy. Travelling out west we have Karl Jakel & Yuki Yamanaka fighting on April 7th in Edmonton, Alberta. Yuki is competing in the main event for the WKA Canadian Title at 147lbs. Good luck men! Also, on April 7th Thomas “Matswo” Oyarzun is hosting New Era’s 1st BJJ seminar. Thomas is one of the best BJJ competitors worldwide. He will be making the trip all the way from Switzerland to visit us so please attend if you can
TIP OF THE MONTH:
“First learn your whats and hows. You must know what a technique is and how to execute it. After that, the only thing left to discover is when to use it. Timing is everything.”
— KRU JEFF
“Champions are made on the mats at the gym, not at the tournament. The tournament is won well before the tournament happens. Make your training as difficult as possible so when you hit the competition, it is easy!”
— PROFESSOR PETER
